| Main | Our HistoryCarolina Apothecary was established in Reidsville, North Carolina in October of 1945. The original owner was W.G. "Bill" Dudley, a pharmacy graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. Dudley and a small staff operated the business in its original location for the first few years, constantly trying to meet the needs of an increasing number of customers. In 1948, construction of a new, larger building began, located directly adjacent to the original. This building was completed in 1950 and remained in operation until the building moved to its present location. Arnold Britt joined the staff in 1972, immediately following his completion of the School of Pharmacy at UNC-Chapel Hill. On October 1, 1979, Britt acquired Carolina Apothecary, Inc., from Dudley, who soon retired. Around the same time, Carolina Apothecary entered the hospital equipment business, renting and selling items such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, and oxygen machines. A store was opened in 1989 in Eden, North Carolina, to focus solely on hospital equipment and supplies. In April, 1996 the present 9,000 square foot building was opened, housing a retail pharmacy and much more space for sales and display of home medical equipment. Carolina Apothecary now employs over 70 people and continues to expand in order to meet the growing needs of our customers. |
