Carolina Apothecary was established in Reidsville, North Carolina in 1945 and is Rockingham County's largest privately owned pharmacy and home medical equipment (HME) business. Arnold Britt, the current owner, came to work for Carolina Apothecary in 1972 immediately following his graduation from the University of North Carolina
- Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy, and in 1979 acquired the company. As a family owned business, he and his wife Susan have raised their three children in Reidsville and worked to support their community, including local schools and civic organizations. Chad Britt, upon graduation from Elon University, joined the family business and continues the tradition of community involvement, along with his wife Sarah Peel Britt.

Recognizing the need for a community-based home medical equipment business, Carolina Apothecary expanded into that market, offering the sales and rental of such items as hospital beds, wheelchairs and oxygen concentrators. A retail store was opened in Eden in 1989 to extend the HME service area, and both locations have since expanded into new and larger facilities. The present 9000-square-foot Reidsville facility was built in 1996 and serves as the corporate headquarters, and the Eden store relocated in 2004. Carolina Apothecary currently employs over 100 people to meet the ever-growing needs of our customers.

During this time, two other pharmacies, Belmont Pharmacy and RxCARE, were established to serve other aspects of pharmacy care. Belmont Pharmacy is a retail pharmacy offering our same pharmaceutical services along with gift items for the convenience of our customers. RxCARE services only long term care facilities throughout Rockingham County and beyond. With our growth, we have sought and added only the best staff to assist our customers and patients.
Together, we strive to be a company that is large enough to provide all the resources our customers need, but small enough to care and to provide personal service.
